Biography
Mr. Mastan joined the firm in 2014 as a Trial Attorney in the firm’s Southern California office. His practice is focused on representing major California acute care providers in state and federal civil actions, arbitrations, mediations, settlement negotiations and other reimbursement disputes between health plans and healthcare providers. Litigated issues typically involve interpretation of California’s Knox-Keene Act, the federal Employee Retirement Income and Security Act (“ERISA”), the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (“EMTALA”), as well as general contract disputes. Mr. Mastan has over 31 years of civil litigation experience and was previously the Division Managing Attorney for a major national insurance company. He has been a member of the California State Bar since 1991 and is admitted to practice before each Federal District Court in California, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from UCLA in 1986, his Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School in 1989, and a Master’s degree in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1991. Mr. Mastan has been active with outreach programs to the homeless population of Pasadena, CA including Church in the Park and Helping Hands, as well as support programs for pediatric cancer patients at City of Hope Hospital, including the Desi Geestman Foundation and the TEAM Jessie program through Maranatha High School.
